Artemis Fowl is an upcoming American science fantasy adventure film based on Eoin Colfer's book series of the same name. Directed by Kenneth Branagh and written by Michael Goldenberg, Adam Kline and Conor McPherson, the film stars Judi Dench, Hong Chau, Josh Gad, Nonso Anozie and newcomers Ferdia Shaw and Lara McDonnell. It will be released by Walt Disney Pictures on August 9, 2019.
Synopsis
Artemis Fowl II, a young Irish criminal mastermind, kidnaps the fairy LEPRecon officer Holly Short for ransom to fund rescuing his father. Once a transaction is made, they go onto a hunt for the evil pixie Opal Koboi and rush to save Artemis Fowl Senior from the Arctic.
Whilst for several years it was stated that the movie would combine the first two Artemis Fowl books, Eoin Colfer has since confirmed in a video interview that the movie will cover the events of the first Artemis Fowl novel only.
